Singers & singer-songwriters, learn to accompany yourself while singing at the piano

Specialised piano lessons to get you up and running as a piano-playing singer. Online and in-person.

Do you dream of being able to accompany yourself at the piano, singing any song you choose?

Picture this.

You sit down at the piano to sing – and your hands just know what to do. You can play all the chords – and your piano accompaniment sounds great.  It even feels easy to play and sing at the same time!

You might be thinking… ‘I’d love to be able to do that. But how do I go about it?’

You can do this. You just need to be shown how.

Perhaps you’re like me, and years of classical piano lessons left you completely reliant on sheet music. Maybe you’ve always wanted to play the piano, but the idea of taking traditional piano lessons feels unappealing, so you’ve never got started. Or perhaps you’ve been getting confused, stuck or overwhelmed trying to teach yourself.

If you’ve found yourself hitting brick walls – I have good news! It’s not that you lack the potential to be a piano-playing singer. It’s that you haven’t been given the right tools, guidance and support. I understand the challenges you face – and I have a proven method to help you make quick progress.

Three things a piano-playing singer needs to do
(that a typical piano lesson won’t teach you):

Play chords

Chords are the key to accompanying yourself at the piano. If you can play the chords of a song then you immediately have a piano accompaniment. It’s as simple as that!

Sing and play at the same time

It feels so good when you can effortlessly intertwine your singing and piano playing. Strong rhythm and coordination skills are the key – and I’ll help you improve both.

Build your own piano parts

Relying on sheet music for your piano parts can leave you restricted and frustrated. I will teach you how to build your own piano accompaniments, so that you always have the power to play and sing the songs you want to, whenever you want to.

Danielle Styles

“With Claire’s help I’ve reached a point where I feel I’m expressing myself fully as a musical artist, which has always been my dream. She has helped me use the piano to express the emotion & message of each song.”

Without the right support, learning to accompany yourself at the piano can be a struggle. I know- I’ve been there.

Hi, I’m Claire. .I was a teenager when I first began teaching myself to play the piano as I sang. I loved to sing and I could already play the piano, but I couldn’t put them together. My years of classical piano lessons meant I could play Mozart or Beethoven – but I had no idea how to begin accompanying myself.

Over many years, I gradually collected all of the knowledge and tools I needed (you can read more about how I did this here), and eventually I was able to achieve my two main goals; to perform professionally as a singer-pianist and to be able to accompany myself at the piano singing songs that I’d written.

Now, I help other singers do the same. I know that typical piano lessons don’t give you the skills you need. That’s why I’ve made it my mission to help singers and songwriters learn to accompany themselves at the piano.
